The Promise Keeper
By Ellen Whitman Bynum
Book Three in The Eagle and the Stone Series
SYNOPSIS:
Mrs. Bynum's Biblical historical novels weave wonderful true to life stories of the Early Church from 33 to 42 A.D. told from the viewpoint of the Romans.
In The Promise Keeper she has successfully shown Governor Pontius Pilate to be obsessed by guilt for his condemnation of Jesus, and the changes that draw him, his beautiful wife, Claudia, and Paronius, the centurion in charge of the squad that crucified Jesus, nearer to the cross.
The story begins on the Day of Pentecost in 33 A.D., when God fulfills his promise by sending the Holy Spirit to the believers. Pilate is totally consumed with fear at this event, afraid that somehow God will avenge himself for the death of Jesus. But then he is delighted and amazed when a baby boy is born to Claudia—a miracle he ascribes to an Unknown God who is merciful, not vengeful.
