Navigating Through the Gospel of Mark
with Captain Bill Brogdon
BY: JOYCE SIDEY BROGDON
This devotional study was written from the recorded teachings and notes of Captain Bill Brogdon. A retired USCG Captain and lover of the Word of God, he was gifted in making the scriptures easy to understand and powerfully meaningful to those around him.
Join him and his wife, Joyce Sidey Brogdon, as they "sail" into the Gospel of Mark, revealing the heart of Christ and His relationship with those who knew Him when He walked the earth.
You won't want to miss this journey through God’s Word
with Captain Bill.
EXCERPT:
CHILDLIKENESS (Mark 10:13-16)
Jesus is on His way to the cross and He is certainly mindful that He has limited time left to minister. However, on the journey, “People were bringing children to Him to have Him touch them.” Bill’s note here has put a line through ‘people’ and he has replaced it with ‘mothers.’ Like Bill, I am confident that it would have been the women who brought their little ones to Jesus to have Him touch them. The disciples tried to stop them, thinking that they might be annoying to Jesus. But Jesus, far from being annoyed by them, warmly welcomed the children. “He took them in His arms, put His hands upon them and blessed them.”
As He embraced the children and looked into their trusting faces, Jesus took that opportunity to again teach about the Kingdom. He said to the people, “The Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” He made it known that the qualities of children: total dependency, absolute trust, humbleness, obedience and accepting recognition of authority are the necessary qualities to enter the Kingdom.
